The government has decided to confiscate the properties of six convicted fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said on Wednesday.
He said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with the members of taskforce formed to bring back the fugitive convicts of Bangabandhu murder case to the country. The meeting was held at the conference room of the law ministry.
The absconding convicts are Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Shariful Haque Dalim, SHMB Nur Chowdhury, AM Rashed Chowdhury, Abdul Mazed and Moslemuddin.
Shafique said the meeting has decided to request the governments of the countries, in which the convicted killers of Bangabandhu are staying, not to issue any passports or visas to them (killers).
“So that they cannot leave those countries,” the minister added.
Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Attorney General Mahbubay Alam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hassan Mahmood Khandker and officials concerned were present at the meeting.
On November 19, 2009, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict that confirmed the death sentence of 12 killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
On January 28, 2010, five convicts–Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bazlul Huda and AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed–were executed following the Supreme Court verdict.
One of the convicted killers, Aziz Pasha, reportedly died in Zimbabwe, while the remaining six are hiding in different countries to avoid execution
