Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury has said peace, prosperity and progress of the country are possible only by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
She made the remark at a function at Nakla Upazila in Sherpur on Friday.
Matia, also a Presidium member of the ruling Awami League, urged the people in the area to vote for the party in the next parliamentary elections, which will be held either late this year or early next year.
Referring to the recent four city corporation polls in which the Awami League faced a debacle, she said it did not mean that the party would be defeated in the next general elections.
The minister said Awami League-backed candidates swept the municipal elections held between 1996 and 2001, but the party could not win the 2001 national polls to form government.
“Those who are dreaming (of wining the next polls), they can. Having dreams is no harm. But the people will consider how much the country was safe in their hands and what the people got (from them),” she said.
At the function, Matia distributed cheques of financial assistance, test relief’s DO (demi-official) letters, wheelchairs and sewing machines among the people.
