The High Court today directed the government to stop production and marketing of antibiotic penicillin and hormone drugs of 28 companies including Amico and Decent pharmaceuticals by 72 hours as those are substandard and injurious to public health.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in four weeks why their inaction to stop production and marketing of those drugs should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
The organisation submitted the petition to the HC recently saying that the antibiotic penicillin and hormone drugs of the 28 companies are allegedly substandard.
The petitioner prayed to the court to pass necessary order upon the authorities to stop their production and marketing.
