She went to the Dhaka Central Jail to meet her husband, lodged there for the past 20 days, with a set of new clothes on the day of Eid.
Shahin Hossain, who hails from Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar, is behind bars for his suspected involvement in a crime, but on Eid day he was allowed to meet his wife, Hasina Begum.
The jail authorities, like in previous years, have let the prisoners see their near ones on this festive day.
Prisoners are also being allowed to accept food and new garments brought for them by their relatives.
Hasina appeared flushed with anticipation as she stood with their 3-year-old daughter, Sanjida, and 6-year-old son, Shanto, in front of the jail gate.
She had brought a new shirt and a lungi for her husband. “I have got a token to go inside at 12pm,” she said, waiting to be let in.
Some brought delicacies like Polau and Semai for their dear ones.
Five simultaneous Eid congregations were held inside the jail at around 8:30am. Top jail police officials including Ashraful Islam Khan, the Inspector General of Prisons, attended the prayers.
This year, some 6,500 inmates joined the congregations. They included BNP leader Abdus Salam Pintu and Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujaheed of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
The authorities distributed Sarees and new dresses among women and child prisoners. Men were given Lungis and Punjabis.
