The President said this while addressing senior police officials at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion of Annual Police Week-2015.
Hamid said, ‘I am shocked and hurt along with the people of the country the way recently innocent people have been killed through hurling petrol bombs and torching vehicles. The people who are involved in the atrocities are the enemies of democracy, humanity and civilization.’
‘I am urging law enforcement agencies to take stern legal actions against them. At the same time, I am requesting the people of the country to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in this regard,’ he added.
Mentioning that the people of the world are worried over terrorism and militancy in the changing world, the President said this clique, impediment to peace and prosperity, is not limited to any specific area of a country. Terrorism and militancy have been emerged as global problem.
‘But it is a matter of hope that Bangladesh Police has been playing an important role in curbing militancy. Their role has been praised both in national and international arenas. I believe every member of the police will work with integrity for establishing the rule of law, safeguarding the constitution and democracy and resist anti-state activities in the days to come, too,’ the President said.
He also asked the police officials to keep vigil so that no one can raise question over the responsibility and duty of the police.
The state minister for home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, home ministry senior secretary Mozammel Haque Khan and inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Hoque were, among other, present on the occasion.
