President asks JU teachers to withdraw their agitation prog

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked the agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) to unconditionally withdraw their ongoing movement to restore academic atmosphere at the university.

The President, also Chancellor of the university, asked JU Vice Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain and the agitating teachers to take necessary steps to immediately resume all academic activities, including the admission process.

JU VC Prof Anwar and the teachers’ forum seeking his resignation have already been informed about the President’s directives.

Urging the VC to take steps for holding the Senate election, Abdul Hamid asked Prof Anwar to form a panel for appointing VC as per the existing law of the university, and withdraw the writ petition against the teachers.

Since April 27, the members of JU Teachers’ Association (Juta) have been on a movement demanding the resignation of Prof Anwar for his reluctance about punishing JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Rajib Ahmed Russell who allegedly assaulted a teacher.

After a High Court order on May 24, Juta backtracked, but later they resumed agitation under a new banner, disrupting academic and administrative activities of the university.
