Plainclothes police recovered a powerful time bomb from Chunkutia Madhyapara here on Thursday afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station Jamal Uddin Mir said locals spotted a bomb-like object wrapped in a white polythene bag near a ditch in front of T&T office in the area at noon and informed them.
Soon, a police team rushed in and informed the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police of the matter.
Later, a seven-member bomb disposal unit of DB went to the spot, recovered the bomb and defused it around 4:30pm.
Assistant commissioner Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury of the DB unit said the bomb was very powerful. “If detonated, it may cause massive destruction in a 100-metre area.”
