BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia exchanged views with pro-BNP doctors on Thursday night and discussed the country’s latest political situation, recent election and her party’s next course of action.
A delegation of Doctor’s Association of Bangladesh (DAB), led by its president Prof Dr AKM Azizul Haque, held the nearly three-hour meeting with the BNP chief at her Gulshan office that ended around 11am.
Meeting sources said about 30 doctors exchanged their views with the former prime minister. Later, she addressed the meeting.
According to the sources, Khaleda claimed that their decision to boycott the 10th national election was the right one as it was an absurd election.
She also said her party is willing to sit in talks with the government for reaching a consensus for holding a fresh election.
The BNP chief, however, said they will force the government to arrange a new election through movement if the government does not engage in dialogue and reach an understanding, the sources added.
As the doctors were vocal against the hiding of the BNP leaders before the election, Khaleda said she is aware of everything and those who showed their courage at the bad time of the party will duly be evaluated in the future.
In response to the physicians’ call to take effective steps for involving mass people in their movement, Khaleda also said she will visit some districts and strengthen the party activities to this end.
The doctors suggested Khaleda to continue their peaceful movement and reconstitute the committees of the party and its associate bodies, inducting the dedicated and active party leaders.
Khaleda also sought the cooperation of the physicians in intensifying the anti-government movement with their spontaneous participations in the days to come.
DAB secretary general AZM Zahid, Prof Dr MA Majid, Prof Dr ABM Bhuiyan, Prof Dr Mazharul Islam Dolon, Pr Dr Abdul Mobin Khan, Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman Dolan, Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman Khan, Prof Dr Khadiza Khatun, Prof Dr Firoza Khatun Prof Dr Nuruddin Ahmed, Prof Dr Mannan Miah and Prof Dr Sirajuddin Ahmed, among others were present.
