The policeman beat me as well though I didn’t make any fault, Tonmoy alleges
A policeman has allegedly threatened a teacher to kill him with showing his gun in a broad daylight with the presence of mass people in the capital’s Uttara.
The incident happened in Sonargaon Janapath Road area of Uttara on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim is Mohammad Tonmoy, 28, a school teacher of the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
The complaint was made against the police constable Habib, 30, working in Uttara west police station.
The incident happened around 1pm, Tonmoy said.
He told the Dhaka Tribune: “The policeman was standing before my gate while I was reversing my car. I requested him many times to give me side. But, he was busy in smoking. Unfortunately, my car was slightly hit by his rifle. But, he was saying that I hit his leg.”
Centring the issue, he put his gun over me and threatened to kill me immediately.
“The policeman beat me as well though I didn’t make any fault,” Tonmoy told the Dhaka Tribune.
Locals said the police member with full arrogance showed his gun and said he would shot the teacher in front of mass people.
Asma, a local of the area, said: “The car did not run over the policeman’s leg. The police member was smoking in the area. I observed the overall situation. The car driver didn’t have any fault either.”
Moreover, Tonmoy said: “After the situation, I have been getting threatening phone calls continuously.”
“They are saying that I will be abducted and killed within two days. My family will never get my dead body.”
When contacted, constable Habib completely refused the whole matter by saying he wasn’t present at that situation.
“I did not go there today and never threatened anyone.”
Officer-in-Charge of Uttara west police station Rafiqul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have 200 police personnel. I am not aware of this kind of incident yet. And no one made any complaint in this regard.”
