The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday revealed that a person named Marzan might be one of the masterminds of the recent militant attacks in the country.

The announcement came hours after home minister Assaduzzaman Khan’s disclosure that investigators identified some more suspected militant attack masterminds other than Tamim and sacked army officer Syed Mohamad Ziaul Haque.

The name of Marzan surfaced during the investigation into the Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack case, said additional commissioner and chief of the CTTC unit Monirul Islam at a press conference on Friday.

Earlier at a dissuasion meeting at the National Press Club on Thursday, the home minister said other than Bangladesh-origin Canadian Tamim Chowdhury and sacked army officer major Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque, more suspected masterminds of recent militant attacks in the country have been identified.

Those who have been identified are under the surveillance of law enforcers, and a process is going on to arrest them, the minister added.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Friday, CTTC chief Monirul Islam said they came to know that Tamim Chowdhury along with the slain five militants came out from a flat of Bashundhara residential area and went near the Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery on 1 July around 8:45 pm on foot.

Later, the five militants stormed the café but Tamim Chowdhury fled the scene, he said.

“After interrogating some suspected militants both in Dhaka and North Bengal, we’ve confirmed that Marzan was staying in Kallyanpur from where he contacted and monitored the Gulsghan attackers,” said Monirul adding, “We got the photo of Marzan from a detained militant’s mobile phone. The photo was released through DMP mobile apps ‘Hello CT’.

DMP urged people to provide information about the person of the photo.

Replying to a question, Monirul Islam said the most wanted mastermind Tamim Chowdhury and sacked army man Zia, a sacked major, might have been staying in Dhaka.

“We’re trying our level best to track down the two absconders,” he added.
