Police never raid Sardar Colony, biggest bachelors’ mess in Dhaka

Sardar Colony, better known as the biggest bachelor’s mess in the country, has never been raided by law enforcement agencies even during the rapid raids in bachelors’ houses in the wake of the recent terrorists’ attacks.

The authorities of the colony, located in the capital’s Kamalapur area, maintained all types of security measures, keeping key information of tenants as per law enforcement agencies directions over the last 36 years, Jainul Shikdar, a manager of building no 135/E told the Bangla  Tribune, a sister concern of Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “We keep detailed information of the tenants and all of them need to stay here abiding by a particular guideline.

“Police never found any criminals in the colony as we usually provide them the updates about all the residents here.”

The 36-year-old Sadar Colony consists of eight buildings named after Afir Uddin Sardar, who used to be a Panchayet committee member of Dhaka.

A total 1,500 bachelors stay in the colony and most of them are job holders and students.

Nasir Uddin, a tenant residing here for more 10 years told Bangla Tribune that he felt safe here as none of the mess members was related with any subversive activities and the management system was better.

Shukhen Das, a banker also expressed same. He is residing here for 10 years.

While talking to the officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station about Sardar Colony he said, the authorities or the managers of the Sardar colony always provide information about their tenants.

Police did not find any criminals and arrest anyone from the colony, he added.
