Police murder: Bulbul, Minu sent to jail

 

The court rejects the bail pleas of the accused

A Rajshahi court has sent Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and BNP Joint Secretary General Mizanur Rahman Minu to jail in a police killing case.

Judge Sheikh Merina Sultana of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order, rejecting their bail pleas on Monday.

On December 26 last year, Minu and Bulbul along with some 350-400 leaders and activists from the BNP-led alliance were sued for a crude bomb attack that killed a police constable and injured seven others in Rajshahi.

Boalia Thana SI Rafiqul Islam filed two cases with the Thana on the same day.

One case was lodged for murder while another for the use of explosives, the SI told the Dhaka Tribune.

In each of the cases, 86 persons were named while the rest remained anonymous, he added.

Constable Siddhartha Roy, 25, died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on December 26, hours after he was flown there by helicopter.

The victim hailed form Kawnia upazila of the Rangpur district. His wife Dipti Sarker is also a police constable for the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

The team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police came under attack when a convoy of police was patrolling in front of Loknath High School in the city.
