Police said they recovered the body of a mentally retarded housewife from in the city Uttara on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Aklima Akhter alias Akhi, 22, wife of Abu Kawser Rana.
Police said Akhi had been living at a flat with her father Abul Khayer at Road no. 24 of Uttara sector-10 under Uttara West Police station.
Quoting family members police said Akhi was deaf and dumb. Her husband, who lives in Dinajpur, used to visit her often.
She would sometimes keep herself shut inside the room for hours, said SI Gautam quoting family members. Sometimes family members had to break open the door to bring her out, he said.
On Sunday Akhi shut her bed room and did not open it at night. Later, her family members broke the door open on Monday morning and found Akhi hanging from the ceiling fan, Goutom said.
Uttara West police recovered the body at about 10:30 am and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
