Police on Tuesday disperse protesters seeking cancellation of admission tests to medical and dental colleges for leak out of question papers charging batons.
The police action followed the protesters’ laying siege to the principal’s office of Dhaka Medical College press the authorities to stop enrolment process.
At one stage police locked in scuffle with the protesters and drove out them from the college premises charging baton that left several protesters injured.
Being dispersed, they again reassembled at the Central Shaheed Minar and announced sit-in programme at Shaheed Minars in every district across the country on Wednesday demanding fresh admission to medical and dental colleges.
Israt Jahan Simi, the spokesperson of the protesters, urged all the admission seekers to make the sit-in programme successful.
One of the demonstrators, Sanjida Islam, a student of University Laboratory School and College, alleged that policemen had also beaten up the girls.
Ramna zone additional deputy commissioner Md Ibrahim Khan told pressmen that there was no incident of charging batons or kicking the admission seekers. He said police had just requested them to leave the place.
Earlier in the morning, the admission seekers gathered at Central Shaheed Minar and later they marched towards DMC despite being barred by police.
They brought out a procession covering their faces with black clothes and marched towards Shahbagh.
Police intercepted the procession in front of Shahbagh police station. The demonstrator took position there.
In Barisal the admission seekers to medical and dental colleges locked the administrative section of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and held sit-in demanding cancellation of admission tests and protesting the question paper leakage.
The protesters demonstrated at different entrance points of SBMC campus since morning while the police disperse them around 11:00am.
State minister for health and family welfare Jahid Malek announced the results of MBBS and BDS admissions with a pass rate of 58.4 per cent on September 20.
Meanwhile, law enforcing agencies arrested several perpetrators including physicians of Rangpur Medical College Hospital and an official of University Grants Commission at places in Dhaka and elsewhere allegedly on the charge of leak of question papers of MBBS admission test.
