Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday thanked the opposition for withdrawing their Thursday’s countrywide hartal.
PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the Prime Minister expressed her sincere thanks to the opposition as they responded to her Monday’s call to withdraw to shutdown on humanitarian grounds as the rescue operation in the Savar Rana Plaza ruins is still going on.
“I would like to request the opposition to withdraw May 2 hartal on the humanitarian grounds,” said while talking to the journalists after visiting the building collapse victims at Savar Combined Military Hospital on Monday.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia in a statement on Tuesday said they have postponed Thursday’s hartal in response to the Prime Minister’s call in this regard and to allow all to stand beside the victims of Savar tragedy.
On April 27, the BNP-led 18-party alliance called the countrywide daylong hartal for May 2 to register its protest against Savar tragedy.
