Reiterating her firm commitment to resist violence and terrorism, prime minister Sheikh Hasina today said her government would no more allow any gross loss to the economy out of an issue-less movement in the country.
‘The country already counted huge loss in thousands of crores Taka due to issueless movement of the BNP-Jamaat nexus,’ she said while responding to a written query raised by Awami League lawmaker Shamsul Haque Chowdhury (Chittagong-12) during a question-answer session in the House.
The leader of the House said during the pre-January 5 period in 2014 and over the last three months after January 5 this year, the BNP-Jamaat clique caused a colossal damage to the economy in thousands of crores Taka in the name of their hartal, blockade and movement.
As many as 128 people were killed in four months since January this year in the mindless violence and atrocities unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat clique. Of them, she said, 73 innocent people were burnt to death in this violence.
Besides, the Leader of the House said, the BNP-Jamaat terrorists torched 1,395 vehicles, while six launches and 13 trains became the victims of their violence.
‘Their issueless movement had not only damaged our property, but also tainted the country’s image and discouraged the foreign investment to a greater extent,’ she said.
The PM said a large number of cases were already filed across the country against the subversive acts and anarchy. To dispose of these cases fast, she said, the session judge and additional session judge of every district have been given authority to hold the trial of the culprits under clause 27 of the Anti-Terrorist Act.
Responding to another question from Workers Party member Md Yasin Ali
(Thakurgaon-3), the prime minister said Tk 20.37 crore was provided to the family members of those killed and injured in the BNP-Jamaat violence from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund.
Besides, she said, Taka 1.36 crore would be distributed soon from the fund among the family members of 13 victims who were killed and five other injured.
The Leader of the House said a total of Taka 9,57,79,140 were given among the owners of the 860 vehicles which were torched and damaged during the so-called movement of the BNP-Jamaat nexus.
Besides, she said, Taka 7,21,12,000 would be provided to the owners of 285 vehicles soon.
