PM for low-cost cancer treatment

She said this while inaugurating the much-awaited newly-constructed country’s biggest 500-bedded Ahsania Mission Cancer & General Hospital in the city’s Uttara area on Wednesday.

She urged the hospital authorities to dedicate it to the service of the people.

“I hope that you would always remain careful so that the common people, especially the cancer patients, easily get scope for treatment at a lower cost,” she said.

The prime minister said that Dhaka Ahsania Mission authorities have been able to build such a big hospital with the money of the people.

She assured all kinds of government assistance for the development of the hospital which would treat both cancer and general patients.

The prime minister urged the affluent section of the society to extend help to develop the hospital as a most modern institute for cancer treatment.

She extended her thanks to those who overwhelmingly donated money to build the hospital.

“I’m happy to know that Ahsania Mission Children City has been set up in Panchagarh with street children aged between 6 and 8 years and that 10,000 such children would get a scope to grow under motherly affection.”

Highlighting various initiatives her government has taken for the development of the health sector, Hasina said that the government is committed to provide healthcare services to all.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, former minister and local MP Sahara Khatun, eminent jurist and Advisor of the Ahsania Mission Barrister Rafiq-ul Haque, President of Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Alam and advisor of Ahsania Mission Syed Dina Haque also spoke on the occasion.

At the function, Dutch-Bangla Bank handed over a cheque of Tk 150 million while Al Arafah Islami Bank gave a cheque of Tk 1 million to the Prime Minister for the development of the hospital.

The 15-storey hospital, with 450,000 square feet of space, is located over 6.5 bighas of land on the bank of the Turag River.

Once the hospital become fully functional, it will treat 180,000 outpatients annually.

The hospital will have all sorts of healthcare facilities including medical imaging, pathology, radio therapy department, non-interventional cardiac and day-care facility.

The Ministry of Social Welfare has given Tk 390 million while the Ministry of Health contributed Tk 150 million for the development of the hospital.
