Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia exchanged New Year greetings through cards to each other on Thursday afternoon.
Prime Minister’s Protocol Officer Sheikh Akhter Hossain mailed Sheikh Hasina’s card to Khaleda Zia’s office.
Khaleda Zia’s Personal Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed accepted the card on behalf of the Chairperson, PM’s special aide (media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil confirmed bdnews24.com.
Later, Khaleda Zia’s Assistant Personal Secretary Surajuzzaman dropped the BNP Chairperson’s card at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Protocol Officer Sheikh Akhter accepted the card.
The exchange of cards happens despite the two rivals refusing to speak to each other when face to face on several occasions like during the funeral of the late President Zillur Rahman.
Both have attacked each othjer , sometimes severely, with the Prime Minister going to the extent of asking Khaleda Zia to leave for ‘your beloved Pakistan’ after Zia said Hasina will flee abroad when out of power.
