Claiming that people across the country rejected outright the controversial 10th general election, opposition BNP on Sunday said the defeat of the government has been ensured through the rejection.
“…people across the country have disapproved the farcical 10th parliamentary polls ensuring the government’s defeat,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.
Amid boycott by the BNP and its like-minded parties, the national election was held in 147 constituencies in 59 districts today (Sunday) amid widespread violence and low voter turnout.
Referring to the thin presence of voters in polling centres across the country, Fakhrul said people both at home and aboard saw the voter-less polling stations.
The BNP leader said the staging of a drama in the name of election will remain as a black chapter in the country’s history.
Thanking all for making a success their ongoing movement to halt the election, he urged them to continue the blockade programme peacefully until the victory.
