The people of Kishoreganj burst into joy on Monday as local lad Abdul Hamid was elected the country’s 20th President, helping the impoverished district to retain presidency.
People from all walks of life, irrespective of party affiliation and belief, started celebrating all around as soon as they heard the news that another Kishoreganjian is going to adorn the country’s highest office.
Leaders and activists of local Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League have distributed sweetmeats among people.
They also congratulated Abdul Hamid and wished his success as the President.
In his instant reaction, Zila Parishad administrator Advocate M Zillur Rahman said a right person has been was elected the country’s President. “He’ll prove his worth in the coming days.”
Earlier, two other distinguished figures from the district became the country’s President. Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam was made acting President of the Bangladesh government in exile in 1971 while the late Zillur Rahman served as the President till his death last month.
