BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the government had to send removed minister Abdul Latif Siddique to jail under people’s pressure.
“The illegal regime had tried to make its political gain by bringing him back home but their plan has gone in vein. They’ve been compelled to send Latif Siddique to jail under people’s pressure,” he said.
Fakhrul, the BNP acting secretary general, made the remarks while addressing a meeting in memory of Brac University Prof late Piash Karim at the Institution of Diploma Engineers arranged by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Songothon (Jasas).
Voicing frustration over the Supreme Court’s rejection of two leave-to-appeals filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, he alleged that the government has politicised the judiciary as they did in all other institutions of the country. “We hoped we would get justice in the apex court, but we got disappointed as it turned down the appeals.”
Fakhrul claimed that the government is trying to keep their party chief away from politics by filing false cases against her.
Mentioning that the country is passing through a critical juncture, the BNP leader said people are now under a fascist regime. “We must find out the way to get rid of it.”
He called upon the BNP leaders and activists to get ready for waging a strong movement to unseat this regime.
