People celebrate Eid across Bangladesh

Muslims across the country are celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, amid much enthusiasm and religious fervour.

The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah in the capital at 8:30am.

President Abdul Hamid, cabinet members, government high-ups, diplomats and non-government officials, among others, attended the Eid prayers.

Strict security measures were taken to ensure safety and security at the Eidgah during the country’s prime Eid congregation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has put in place four-tier security blanket at the National Eidgah in the capital for the Eid congregation, said DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.

Watch towers and CCTV cameras were installed to ensure security to the main congregation.

The devotees were not allowed to carry any bags at the prayer-ground.

Five congregations were held at the National Mosque at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and 10:45am.

The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj with participation of over thousands of devotees from home and abroad amid stringent security measures against the backdrop of last year extremist attack, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

Eminent Islamic scholar Maulana Faird Uddin Masud conducted the congregation at 10:00am in the morning. Following the tradition, bullets were fired from the shot gun to start the jamaat. This year Sholakia Eidgah held its 190th Eid congregation.

A special prayer was offered seeking peace, welfare and prosperity of the mankind and the nation.
