The Information ministry of Bangladesh has issued a circular for stopping transmission of Peace TV in the country while the BTRC has banned YouTube videos of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in Bangladesh.
The ministry terminated the downlink license of the channel on Monday morning.
Post and Telecommunications State Minister Tarana Halim informed on Monday that the government is taking quick steps to block Zakir Naik’s Peace TV on online platforms as well.
Earlier, on Sunday, during a meeting of the Cabinet committee on law and order, it was decided to ban airing of Peace TV in Bangladesh.
The circular reads, as per the decision of the Cabinet committee on law and order and for disobeying the conditions of downlink, the downlink license of free-to-air TV channel Peace TV is terminated.
In the circular, every concerned authority has been requested to take necessary steps to stop the broadcast of Peace TV in Bangladesh.
Copies of the circular have been sent to the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, Principal Information Officer (PIO), Director General of Bangladesh Television and Administrator of Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB).
After it was revealed that one of the Gulshan attackers was a follower of Dr. Zair Naik, many demanded airing of Peace TV to be stopped in Bangladesh.
