The nationwide 83-hour road-rail-waterway blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance, entered the fourth and last day today (Tuesday).
The blockade that started at 6:00am on Saturday ends at 5pm today.
However, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to hold a press conference at 5:45pm today to unveil the next course of action and her proposal for holding the polls with the participation of all.
The opposition combine enforced the blockade programme demanding the government arrange the 10th general election under a non-party caretaker government and cancel the January-5 ‘farcical’ election.
Meanwhile, the third day of the blockade was marked by stray incidents of violence at different places across the country on Monday.
Incidents of bomb blasts, vandalism, arrest and arson were reported from different parts of the country, including the capital.
The 18-party has already enforced 418 hours of road-rail-waterway blockade across the country in four spells –71-hour, 131-hour, 144-hour and 72-hour ones — after the announcement of the election schedule, that left at least 78 people dead.
The opposition alliance has been on nonstop agitation programmes since the Election Commission announced the election schedule on November 25 fixing the balloting date for January 5.
