Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday said the opposition parties in Bangladesh are “very irresponsible” and that is a sad matter.
Pointing finger at the main opposition BNP, he said they should know how the government runs as they were in power in the past.
Muhith came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after inaugurating the 4th Regional Scout Conference in Golapganj upazila.
About the fuel price hike, Muhith said the prices of petroleum are still less in the country compared to that on the international market.
Responding to a question about Sunday’s hartal of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, he said, “It’s a decision came from madness. It can’t be the decision of a responsible political party.”
Opposition BNP in an emergency meeting on Thursday night decided to enforce a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Sunday in protest against the fuel price hike.
Earlier on Thursday night, the government raised the petroleum prices with effect from Friday, the second time after December 30, 2011 and the fifth in this tenure.
The prices of diesel and kerosene have been raised by Tk 7 per litre while that of octane and petrol were by Tk 5 per litre.
