Health minister Mohammed Nasim has asked the authorities concerned to suspend operation of three private medical colleges for violating college management policy.
The colleges are Northern Medical College in Rangpur, Gazipur City Medical College, and Nightingale Medical College and Hospital in Ashulia.
The minister came up with the directive on Sunday during a meeting at the Secretariat.
The meeting also suspended admission process of Southern Medical College in Chittagong and asked the authorities concerned of BGC Trust Medical College in Chittagong to reduce its seats to 75 from 125.
Talking about the current students of these institutions, Nasim said the students would be allowed to complete their education at other private medical colleges in the same region.
The minister has instructed the private medical college invigilator committee to visit 68 private medical colleges across the country and submit a report in three months.
The committee said it has already completed inspecting 25 colleges.
Among others, additional secretary Biman Kumar Saha, Dhaka University vice chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and director general of Directorate General of Health Services DGHS Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque were also present in the meeting.
