“Over the last four decades, the communal opponents have become stronger organisationally. They’ve rallied huge public support and arms behind them. They were in silent action over a long period, when we only delivered verbose speeches, gave lip services, gave slogans,” the minister said.
He urged the pro-liberation forces to take lessons from the recent violence at Fatikchhari in Chittagong.
On April 11, three Awami League supporters died in a Jamaat-e-Islam-led attack on an anti-hartal procession in Fatikchhari.
Quader made the remarks while inaugurating Mianbazar Bridge over Kakri River. The bridge was constructed under ‘Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Upgrade Project’.
The minister also slammed politicians for making irresponsible and provocative remarks against their opponents, heightening tensions.
