The government has decided to designate more people as CIPs – Commercially Important Persons – for their significant contributions to boosting exports.
A Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the draft of ‘CIP (export) Regulation- 2013’ on Monday.
A total 165 people were bestowed the title, but henceforth 188 will be chosen for honour, said Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.
“Trade and export has increased and there are more boards of directors. So the number of CIPs must also go up”, said Bhuiyan on behalf of the decision.
Currently, 125 individuals in the export sector have earned the CIP title. But that club is now set have 140 members, thanks to the amended regulation.
Five among them will be from C-category exporters of the EPZ.
The Cabinet Secretary said now 48 individuals – instead of 40 – responsible for running business establishments within CIP trade ambit will get the title.
