The government has “never felt any pressure” from any country, state minister for foreign affairs has said.
Briefing journalist on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s just-concluded visit to Japan, M Shahriar Alam also said on Thursday that relations with global powers were progressing at “a good pace”.
Sheikh Hasina completed her first bilateral visit and returned home on Thursday amid speculations that Western countries, of which Japan is a key ally, were unhappy with the current administration as they did not find the Jan 5 elections credible.

The state minister, however, said Japan’s “confidence” to this new government was more than ever before.
“This bilateral visit proves Japan’s confidence in this government more than any other time,” he said, referring to the nearly $ 6 billion Japanese commitment to Bangladesh made during the visit.
He said the government never under pressure from any country.
“You can assume that they have full confidence in the government,” he said, citing the pace of bilateral engagements with Japan, Russia, China and “even with the US”.
The prime minister would visit China on June 6.
“We are not facing any problems at the working level,” he said.
He observed that developed countries were beginning to realise that Bangladesh was a good location with a bright investment prospect.
He said the Prime Minister’s visit had taken Dhaka-Tokyo relations to ‘a new height’.
