Claiming their Tuesday’s long march towards Teesta Barrage in Nilphamari a programme for protecting the national interest, BNP on Monday called upon the government not to do politics over it.
“Our long march towards Teesta is not against the government. It’s a movement for realising people’s fair rights,” said BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah.
He made the remarks while distributing leaflets in front of the Jatiya Press Club to mobilise public support in favour of their long-march programme.
Rafiqul criticised the ministers for issuing a threat to block their peaceful programme. “We don’t know why the ruling party leaders are staring at the opposition with wild eyes over the long-march programme. It’s not fair to do politics over every issue. All should get united irrespective of party and opinion in the movement meant for protecting the rights of the country’s people.
He said BNP does not treat India as its enemy though the country has helped Awami League obliterate democracy in Bangladesh. “But we want to realise the right share of Tessta water.”
Calling upon the ruling party men to join the long march, Rafiqul said India will be forced to accept the demand of Bangladeshi people in the face of a strong movement.
The BNP leader said the current regime is absolutely reluctant to protect the national interests as it is busy serving the interests of the neighbouring country to cling to power with its support. “Border killing has not yet stopped due to the government’s submissive foreign policy.”
He called upon the people from all walks of life to participate in their long-march programme to save the country its independence and sovereignty and restore democracy and the rule of law.
