Five organisations involved with Ganojagaran Manch on Tuesday said no one can form a political party in the name of the Manch.
“If anyone (involved with the Manch) thinks about forming a political party, he can do that with a different name deserting Manch,” said M Shamsul Islam Sumon, president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (JSD), one of organisers of Ganojagaran Manch movement.
He came up with the remark at a press conference in the city apparently responding to the Manch’s spokesperson Imran H Sarker’s recent announcement that the Manch might turn into a political party.
Talking to a private television station Channel I, Imran on Sunday said, “We cannot rule it out whether Ganojagaran Manch will form a political party or not. The Manch will certainly go to such way, if people decide it,” Imran said.
Then five organisations — Bangladesh Chhatra Andolon, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree, Bangladesh Chhatra Samity, Chhatra Oikya Forum, BCL (JSD) –organised the press conference at Madhu’s canteen on the Dhaka University campus.
Pointing at Imran, Sumon who read out the written statement at the conference said, “The post of spokesperson is a temporary one that can be changed. However, that change can be made as per the decision of all the organisations involved in the Manch movement.”
On Saturday, BCL and Jubo League, two pro-ruling party organisations, allegedly attacked the Manch activists in the capital’s Shahbagh area.
On Saturday, a faction of the Manch ‘expelled’ Imran H Sarker declaring him “unwanted” at the platform.
Referring to delicate relation between two factions of the Manch, Sumon said if conflicts among the pro-liberation forces go on that will turn into a bloody clash benefiting the anti-liberation forces.
He urged the feuding factions to resolve their differences to take forward the ongoing movement against the war criminals.
Chhatra Moitree president Bappaditya Basu and Chhatra Andolon president Manzur Rahman Mithu were, among others, present at the press conference.
