No conspiracy can stop BD’s progress: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Sunday said nobody can stop Bangladesh’s progress though ‘there are many conspiracies’ and mentioned that people of Bangladesh did never accept ‘domination by others’.

 

“Bangladesh is marching ahead. No stopping now. There’re many conspiracies. Nothing can stop it (progress). Let’s move ahead,” he told a function in the city urging all to work together for the country.

 

Terming former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger’s observation on Bangladesh as ‘stupid argument’, the Foreign Minister described how misperception on Bangladesh was built on though the country has showed how a nation can survive and continue to progress.

 

Mahmood Ali sought support from all to portray Bangladesh positively in the world through highlighting the achievements the country made so far and urged all to work together for further development utilizing the potential.

 

Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) arranged the event on ‘Branding Bangladesh’ and to distribute BBF Award-2014 at Gulshan Club in the city.

 

Director General (UN) at Foreign Ministry Saida Muna Tasneem made a presentation highlighting how Bangladesh can be branded well globally.

 

Director General (Operations and Plan Directorate), Armed Forces Division, Brig Gen Abu Sayeed Khan, South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Lee Yun-young, Egyptian Ambassador Mahmoud Ezzat, FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam and BBF Chairman Masud A Khan also spoke on the occasion.

 

Saida Muna laid emphasis on national consensus for better nation branding and suggested formation of a ‘nation branding cell’ which could be headed by the Foreign Ministry.

 

“We need to work together. Multi-stakeholders engagement is a must,” she said adding that there needs to have a strong political commitment too.

 

Later, BBF awards were handed over to five individuals and organizations recognizing their contributions in various fields.

 

The award winners are – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Armed Forces, ICRC, BGMEA, Dhaka Tribune, and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
