Chief of a faction of the National People’s Party (NPP) Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu has met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The prime minister’s Press Secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhury said Nilu went to the Ganabhaban on Monday evening to invite the prime minister to the founding anniversary celebrations of his party.
The NPP, headed by Nilu, was a component of the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance but later he announced formation of a new political alliance, National Democratic Front (NDF), following his expulsion.
Nilu, hailing from Gopalganj, the home district of Hasina, had said after the expulsion that they did not have any ‘power’ to make any decision in the alliance. “The BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami used to impose all the decisions,” he had said.
Nilu announced that his party would ‘constructively’ criticise the Awami League-led government.
The BNP has been blaming the government for the rift in the 20-Party Alliance.
The Khaleda Zia-led opposition coalition expelled Nilu after he attended a party at the Ganabhaban hosted by Hasina in July this year.
Another faction of NPP still remains with the 20-Party Alliance.
