N’ganj killing: Govt committee submits report

The high-powered probe committee formed under directive of the High Court has submitted its primary investigation report to the court.

However, authorities involved have denied to divulge any information regarding their findings.

“We have filed a primary progress report to the HC,” public administration ministry deputy secretary Abul Kashem Md Mohiuddin said on Wednesday.

Mohiuddin, who is also the member secretary of the probe body, told the Dhaka Tribune their report was based on media information and their hearings.

However, he refused to comment on any findings in the primary progress report. “We will continue our hearings and probe from tomorrow (Thursday).”

Another progress report will be submitted to the High Court next week, he added.

On May 5, the High Court ordered an administrative investigation into the killing of Narayanganj Ward Counsillor Nazrul Islam, lawyer Chandan Sarkar and five of their associates.

Member secretary of the probe body refused to comment on any findings in the primary progress report.

The high-powered probe panel, formed with public administration Additional Secretary Shahjahan Ali in the lead, is now carrying out a mass hearing.

The seven people were abducted on April 27. Later their bodies surfaced in the Sitalakhya river. Autopsy report said they were murdered by professionals.

Allegations rose against the three RAB officials to have been involved in the murder in exchange of money – Tk6 crore, as alleged by the father-in-law of Nazrul Islam.

Fingers were also pointed at another local Ward Counsillor Nur Hossain, who managed to flee to Kolkata from within the surveillance net of the law enforcers.

The three RAB officials are former Narayanganj RAB 11 Commanding Officer Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, Nahir Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Rana.

Among them, Sayeed is the son-in-law of Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya who had strongly said “none of his family was involved in the killing.”
