A Narayanganj court has granted eight-day remand for five members of the Rapid Action Battalion for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of seven people, including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Chandni Rupom passed the order when police produced them before the court with a 10-day remand plea soon after their arrests on Wednesday afternoon.
The RAB officials are Emdadul Hoque, Arif Hossain, Hira Mia, Billal Hossian and Abu Toiyob.
All of them are the members of RAB 11.
Narayanganj District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman said: “DB police arrested them from the district around 9am.”
“They have confessed about their involvement with the killing. They said they were forced to conduct the killing as per the order of high officials,” said Narayanganj District Lawyers Association President Advocate Shakhawat Hossain Khan.
Earlier, three former RAB officials gave their confessional statements under section 164 in the Narayanganj killing case.
On April 27, Nazrul, his four aides, Chandan and his driver were kidnapped from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road around the same time in broad daylight.
Six bodies, including those of Nazrul and Chandan, were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River on April 30 and another was found the following day.
The other victims were Moniruzzaman Swapan, Tajul Islam, Liton, Jahangir and Ibrahim.
