Narayanganj city Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has said that the “godfathers of Narayanganj” were “directly and indirectly” involved in the sensational seven murders.
She also demanded that the prime suspect of the seven murders Nur Hossain be brought back from India immediately and questioned.
Ivy was speaking to reporters on Monday after emerging from an interrogation by the administrative probe committee on the murders at the secretariat.
On being asked who these godfathers are, she said, “The whole country knows who these godfathers of Narayanganj are. There is no need to name them here.”
Alluding to a phone conversation between Nur Hossain and Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman, she said, “Nur Hossain needs to be brought back to the country for questioning about all these.”
Asked why the committee had summoned her, Ivy said since one of the slain men and the prime suspect were both Narayanganj city councillors, the committee wanted to speak to the mayor.
She said the investigations had revealed a lot of information and she was hopeful that the murderers would be found as well.
Ivy was questioned for about an hour at the probe committee chief, Additional Secretary Shahjahan Ali Molla’s office in the secretariat.
Shahjahan Ali told reporters that the committee had asked Ivy about the slain Councillor Nazrul Islam and prime suspect, Councillor Nur Hossain.
Asked whether the mayor had given any crucial information, he replied, “We have told you what we can.”
Asked whether the committee would go to India to interrogate Nur Hossain, he said, “Wait and see.”
