Four more bodies, which were seen floating in Shitalakhya river, have been recovered on Wednesday evening, hours after the recovery of the body of abducted city councilor Nazrul Islam.
Of the four bodies three were identified as Nazrul Islam’s close aides Tajul and Shwapan and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar’s driver Ibrahim.
Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Akhter Morshed confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Police have recovered five bodies from the river so far. Of the bodies, four have been identified.”
Earlier in the day, those five bodies have been seen floating in Shitalakhya river. Later, police and family members identified one body as of Nazrul, councilor of ward No 2 and a panel mayor of the Narayanganj City Corporation.
Nazrul was abducted along with his close aides Tajul, Shwapan, Liton and Jahangir from the Linkroad area of the city on April 27.
In the meantime, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver Ibrahim were abducted from the court area.
Later, a three-member committee led by the additional deputy inspector general of police was formed to investigate the abduction of seven people including the councilor.
In the wake of frequent abductions in Narayanganj, the authorities have withdrawn Narayanganj police superintendent, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) commander and two OCs.
