Government employees will get paid according to the new pay scale from Jan 1, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said.
“The employees will get their December salaries in January in accordance with the new pay scale,” he told reporters at the Secretariat on Saturday.
He said the “law ministry objected to certain points”, an intervention he felt was unwarranted.
“Everything is decided. The Cabinet and the prime minister have approved it. The law ministry has no reason to raise questions,” Muhith added.
He said the process to implement the scale would be completed ‘soon’.
The government approved the eighth pay scale for its employees in September, offering a highest basic pay of Tk 78,000 and a minimum of Tk 8,250.
The new basic pay will have retrospective effect from Jul 1, entitling employees to the payment of arrears. The allowances, however, will be paid from July 1, 2016.
