One month after formation of new government, the size of the cabinet is likely to increase
The size of the new government is likely to increase as several new ministers might be included in the cabinet on Wednesday, highly placed sources says.
It is being speculated that the new ministers will be both from ruling Awami League and main opposition Jatiya Party, according to sources in the cabinet division.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Wednesday noon, senior secretary to the President’s office Sheikh Altaf Ali said.
Cabinet division’s Additional Secretary Md Moyeen Uddin said he heard that the oath-taking will take place during the premier’s visit at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.
Senior Secretary Sheikh Altaf did not confirm of the oath-taking ceremony, but said “it is a simple matter to arrange such a programme in short notice.”
“I am not sure about the oath-taking yet,” he added.
However, it remained unclear as to how many faces will be added to the cabinet or as to who the faces will be or will there be any newcomers this time.
Former foreign minister Abu Hassan Mahmud Ali might be a likely candidate. His personal secretary Gopal Chandra told the Dhaka Tribune he heard about Abu Hassan’s inclusion.
Among other speculated faces are Awami League leader Rafiqul Islam and Jatiya Party Presidium Member GM Qader. However, the speculations could not be confirmed.
The new government was formed last month with inclusion of the main opposition after Awami League emerged as the winner of the January 5 election.
