Mustafizur Rahman finally got the permission to participate for English county team Sussex, said a senior official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday.
Mustafiz was scheduled to join for Sussex earlier this month after signing as their second overseas cricketer in March for the NatWest T20 Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup.
But his participation was delayed by the BCB’s medical team, who feared that the cricketer may suffer a burnout after grueling campaigns in the ICC World Twenty20 and Indian Premier League.
The 20-year-old bowling sensation, nicknamed Fizz, helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win their maiden IPL title with 17 wickets from 16 matches.
Mustafiz was named as the emerging player of the tournament, the first foreign cricketer to be bestowed with the honour, after conceding just 6.9 runs per over, the most miserly among those who bowled in at least 10 matches.
Early in June, BCB’s physio and fitness trainers indicated that Mustafiz would need one more month to recover but the bowler could start bowling in the nets from last week.
‘Our medical team gave positive report about his physical condition,’ BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus told New Age. ‘He is doing fine in training at the moment and we expect him to improve by the time he leaves for UK.
‘He will leave for England on July 13 subject to the availability of visa.’
Mustafiz is now expected to make his debut for Sussex against Hampshire at Hove on July 15 in NatWest T20 Blast and play at least four matches in the competition.
He is also expected to play at least four matches in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
His stint with the county will be lengthened if the team qualifies to the next round.
That will mean he will miss at least few days of practice with his national colleagues, who will start their training from July 20 ahead of their home series against England.
Sussex, are currently fourth in the South Group, three points behind leaders Glamorgan in NatWest T20 Blast, have signed Sri Lanka seamer Nuwan Kulasekara for a short-term as they continue to await the arrival for the Bangladeshi sensation.
