Move forward with peoples’ unity: Khaleda
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in jail in a corruption case, today told her party leaders to move forward with the strength of the unity forged among the countrymen.
“Madam offered prayers for us and expressed hope that we would move forward with our unity with the countrymen,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Mirza Fakhrul was talking to reporters after a meeting with Khaleda at Old Dhaka Central Jail this afternoon.
MADAM IS VERY ILL, SHIFT HER TO BSMMU
The BNP secretary general also demanded that the authorities shift Khaleda to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) immediately for her treatment.
“Nowhere in the law has it said that a person who can’t move and is ill would have to be presented before the court on wheel-chair and then would have to be taken back to prison. We condemn this act by the authorities.”
“She (Khaleda) was not given therapy for four days, as a result, Madam’s pain has gone up,” Fakhrul said.
He yet again demanded immediate release of Khaleda Zia from jail.
NO DISCUSSION ON POLLS
Responding to a query, the BNP leader said no discussion over the upcoming election was held with Khaleda Zia.
Fakhrul led a five-member BNP delegation to meet Khaleda in jail this afternoon.
They entered the jail at 2:43pm and held one and a half hours long talks with the party chairperson.
Other delegation members are BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamir Uddin Sircar, and Mirza Abbas.
WHY KHALEDA IS IN JAIL?
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is in jail since February 23.
She landed in jail over Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, where she was initially given a five-year term, and later an extended 10-year-term following appeal.
Khaleda also stands convicted in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, where she has been given seven years in imprisonment.
