‘The people are not in favour of this government any more. They want to see a different government,’ says the BNP leader.
BNP will declare tougher programs to oust the incumbent Awami League government from power after the month of Ramadan, says the party’s Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed.
“The people are not in favour of this government any more. They want to see a different government. Our movement is a must to bring back the judiciary’s independence, the democratic and voting rights of the people and justice in the country,” he said.
Barrister Moudud was speaking at a sit-in protest of the pro-BNP lawyers in front of the office of the Supreme Court Bar Association president on Monday.
Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum had held the program demanding release of incarcerated BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and withdrawal of all “false cases” against her.
Their protest came a day before the Supreme Court delivers its order on the leave-to-appeal petitions challenging Khaleda’s bail granted by the High Court in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Moudud said: “I strongly believe that the Appellate Division will uphold Khaleda Zia’s bail tomorrow (Tuesday) considering all the documents and her physical condition, and she will be out on bail.”
He said BNP had been observing peaceful programs till now. “But the people are tired of our peaceful programs. That is why tougher programs will come after the Ramadan to oust this government.
“… Our movement will succeed through Khaleda Zia’s freedom.”
He also condemned the “government move” through the High Court’s three-month stay order on Gazipur City Corporation polls, adding that the ruling party went for that strategy seeing the massive public support for the BNP-backed mayoral candidate.
“We will have the same massive nationwide public support in the next national polls. Awami League and its candidates will not survive that. BNP will triumph,” Moudud said.
BNP to demonstrate in Dhaka on Wednesday
Meanwhile, after being denied the permission to hold a rally on Monday, BNP has announced to stage demonstrations in all thanas of capital Dhaka on Wednesday, reports UNB.
At the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters earlier in the day, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the program, alleging that the government is not allowing people to exercise their democratic rights as it is afraid of them.
He said they tried to organize a rally in front of their office at 2pm Monday demanding Khaleda Zia’s release from jail to ensure her better treatment. “But, police did not give us the permission at the behest of the government.”
Rizvi also strongly condemned and protested the police’s decision.
A huge number of police were seen deployed around the BNP headquarters since Monday morning following the party’s announcement to hold a rally there.
