Mother to be hanged for killing son

Bagerhat Session Judge SM Solaiman pronounced the verdict in the presence of the convicts

A Bagerhat court on Monday sentenced a mother and two others to death for killing her son.

The convicts are Latifa Begum, Monir Mollah and Nazma Begum, Monir Mollah’s sister, all from Nagarkandi village, Mollahat upazila.

Bagerhat Session Judge SM Solaiman pronounced the verdict in the presence of the convicts.

According to the prosecution, Latifa Begum had an extra marital relationship with Monir Mollah for which Latifa’s husband, Iku Biswas, used to torture her.

Later, Latifa divorced Iku and married Monir Mollah.

To take revenge on Iku, Latifa, along with Monir and his sister Nazma, plotted to kill her one and half year old son, Sahab Ali alias Dipjol.

On April 12, 2005 Dipjol went missing and his body was found floating in the pond near their house the following day.

The victim’s father filed a murder case with Mollahat police station in this connection on October 29, 2005.

On May 10, 2006, police submitted a charge sheet against Latifa, Monir and Nazma.

After examining the records and interrogating witnesses, the Bagerhat court pronounced the death sentence to the trio.
