Mother, son among 4 killed by ambulance at DMCH gate

At least four people including a woman and her child have been killed and four others injured as an ambulance ran over them at the entrance of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The accident took place around 9:40am Saturday when the driver of an ambulance tried to enter the hospital premise recklessly.

Two of the deceased are Gulenur Begum, 27, wife of Ferdouse Ali, of Patuakhali district, and the couple’s son Sakib, 7. The third killed in the incident is a sexagenarian who remains unidentified.

Amena Begum Surjo, 35, died around 7pm in the evening. She was pregnant. She died in excessive lose of blood after an emergency surgery at the hospital.

The injured are Ramzan, 30, Bachchu Mia, 35 and Sajib, 5.

DMCH police outpost In-charge Bachchu Miah confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

“The accident left two dead instantly in the morning and afterwards, the woman died of her injuries. Ambulance driver Sohel has been detained,” said Bachchu Miah.
