An ambulance carrying the body of Abdul Quader Molla has left the Dhaka Central Jail after his execution for war crimes.
Security personnel are accompanying the vehicle to avert any possible violence.
Khilgaon police OC Sheikh Sirajul Islam, charged with escorting the ambulance, said the ambulance will go to the Jamaat leader’s ancestral home at Faridpur’s Sadar Upazila via Munshiganj’s Mawa river crossing.
Molla was hanged at 10:01am on Thursday night and the ambulance left at around 11:14pm.
Fourteen vehicles of RAB, police and BGB troopers were seen accompanying the ambulance. The black ambulance, carrying the body, is escorted by eight police vehicles and two each of RAB and BGB.
Prison authorities said they would not brief the media right now.
OC Islam said the ambulance would start for Mawa via Babubazar.
A ferry, the ‘Kalmilata’, has been kept ready at the ferry terminal to transport the ambulance, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Hasan Badal told bdnews24.com.
Molla will be buried at his ancestral graveyard at Amirabad in Faridpur Sadar.
