Judgement based on books only, claims Mojaheed’s son
Ali Ahsan Mojaheed’s counsels said they would challenge the judgement, death penalty for the Jamaat-e-Islami leader, at the Supreme Court.
Terming the verdict “inappropriate”, they expressed their dissatisfaction over the judgement in an immediate reaction.
“This is not a proper judgement,” Saifur Rahman, one of Mojaheed’s counsel, told reporters outside the International Crimes Tribunal-2 which held the trial of the Jamaat secretary general.
“We will surely go to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to appeal against this,” he insisted.
Mojaheed’s son Ali Ahmed Mabrur strongly protested the judgement.
“The judgement was delivered based only on some books,” an aggrieved Mabrur told reporters outside the tribunal building after Wednesday’s judgement.
Son of the Jamaat secretary general was the lone defence witness in the sensational war crimes case.
“His (Mohajeed’s) only offence is that he is an activist of Islamist movement and secretary general of Jamaat,” claimed Mabrur.
The tribunal took into cognisance different published documents including books and newspaper articles alongside other evidence.
“The judgement made us disgruntled. We will definitely file appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the judgement,” Mabrur added.
