Mob beats Chhatra League leader, 7 others, for trying to kidnap bride in Comilla
Police are preparing to produce them in court
A Chhatra League leader and seven others have been beaten after attacking a wedding reception and trying to kidnap the bride, in Comilla.
The incident took place in Debidwar upazila’s Saharpar village on Friday.
Relatives of the bride and angry locals beat up the seven youths accused and handed them over to the police later. Police are already preparing to produce them in court.
At least 25 people were injured in the brawl. They later received treatment at the Debidwar Upazila Health Complex, under police protection.
The accused are Islam, president of Nimsar Zunab Ali Degree College Chhatra League, and his associates. Around 50-60 people took part in the attack led by Islam.
The seven others are Ali Hosain, 21, son of Jahangir Alam of the Kotwali Thana area, Sajib Paul, 19, son of Maran Paul, and Md Zafar, 20, son of Sujat ali of Burichang upazila, Bashir Ahmed, 22, son of Mizanur Rahman Nahidul Islam, 22, son of Zainal Abedin, Mehedi Hasan, 21, son of Abdul Auar of Chandina upazila, and Md Alam, 21, son of late Badsha Miah from Debidwar upazila.
According to police and locals, Fatema Akhter, 19, daughter of Zakir Farazi, and Siddukur Rahman, 25, son of Md Younus, got married on February 1.
Debidwar police station OC Md Zahirul Awnar confirmed the matter.
He said: “During the primary investigation, the detained men said Ismail and another Chhatra League leader, Sakib, had told them about an organizational meeting of their organization in the Nuritala area, and took them over to the wedding program by seven microbuses.
“Islam and Sakib fled the scene.”
“They also said the bride had an affair with Islam when she was a student at Nimsar College,” the OC added.
