The Election Commission has cancelled the nomination papers of four mayoral candidates of Dhaka City Corporations including BNP leaders Abdul Awal Mintoo and Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu.
The Election Commission cancelled the nominations on Wednesday morning.
DNCC Returning Officer Shah Alam told the Dhaka Tribune: “Mintoo’s nomination has been cancelled as the person who nominated him and the one who seconded his nomination are not the voters of the area from where the BNP leader is contesting.”
Meanwhile, the commission has also cancelled the nomination paper of mayoral candidate Nayem Hossain on charges of being a loan defaulter.
On the other hand, DSCC Returning Officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed said: “Pintu’s nomination has been cancelled as he is a convict in the BDR carnage case.”
He said the nomination of mayor aspirant of Babul Sardar Chakhari has been cancelled on charges of being a loan defaulter.
