Law minister Anisul Huq has said the charge sheet in 13-year-old boy Samiul Islam Rajon murder case would be submitted by 72 hours.
He said: ‘The police will submit the charge sheet in the murder case by 72 hours.”
However, he ruled out the possibility of trying the killers at a special tribunal. “The Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Tribunal can hold the trial.”
The minister made the statement while talking to journalists after unveiling the registration manual of his ministry at Hotel Sonargaon on Wednesday.
On question of taking necessary measures to extradite Kamrul Islam, one of Rajon’s killers who was arrested in Saudi Arabia, the minister said: “He can be tried in absentia. However, the government is trying to bring him back for trial.”
Earlier on July 23, the minister told reporters that the police would file a charge sheet over the murder within the next few days.“The home minister has assured me that the charge sheet will be filed within three or four days.”
He said the government would ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits so that nobody dared to commit such an offence in the future.
On July 8, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon was beaten to death in Sylhet’s Kumargaon by some men who falsely accused the teen of stealing a van. The video of the brutal beating soon spread on social media platforms, triggering massive outrage among the public.
Later, Rajon’s father filed a case in this connection and the police have arrested 13 accused so far.
