The demonstrating admission seekers on Tuesday announced fast unto death at Central Shaheed Minar today demanding a fresh test for enrolling students in the MBBS and BDS courses and scraping the recently held test and ongoing admission process.
At a press briefing at Central Shaeed Minar, they made the announcement and also vowed to continue their movement until their demands were met.
Muhaimenul islam Neon, a spokesperson of the movement, said a three-member panel of protestors were having behind the scene dialogue with the government delegates.
‘If the government accepts their demands, we would call off our protest,’ he said.
Earlier in the morning, students and their guardians gathered at Central Shaheed Minar braving heavy rain and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.
Sabuj Ahmed, brother of an admission seeker, demanded proper investigation into the death of the UGC official and the question leak incident in the interest of identifying the real culprits and ensuring justice to the protesting students.
He also sought the prime minister’s intervention without any delay in resolving the ongoing crisis over question leak.
The admission seekers have been demonstrating to press home their four-point demand — taking measures to prevent question leak and forgery, cancellation of recently held medical and dental admission tests and fresh test, exemplary punishment of the perpetrators and ensuring punishment of the law enforcers who attacked agitating students.
The results of MBBS and BDS admissions tests, with a success rate of 58.4 per cent, were published on September 20 amid allegation of question leak.
